Recently, I completed James Clear’s compelling book, “Atomic Habits.” I was mistaken to judge this book by its cover when I first added it to my reading list. I had assumed it would be another self-help book that offered guidance on forming good habits and letting go of bad ones.

Core Philosophy: Clear emphasizes that success doesn’t come from setting massive goals, but from building better systems — and those systems are rooted in small, consistent habits.

The Habit Loop:

Every habit follows a 4-step pattern:

1. Cue – A trigger that initiates the behavior.
2. Craving – The desire or motivation behind the habit.
3. Response – The actual behavior or action.
4. Reward – The benefit that reinforces the habit.

The Four Laws of Behavior Change:

1. Make it Obvious (Cue)

– Design your environment to show visual cues of good habits.
– Use “habit stacking” — link new habits to existing routines.

Example: After I brush my teeth, I’ll meditate for 1 minute.

For example, you have a habit of waking up early, so you can incorporate some deep breathing or meditation into your day.
