best spiritual books

Get a list of the best spiritual books which will take you down the path of healing, restore your faith in yourself, nurture your sense of empathy and help you to look at life differently.

To put in the words of Francis Bacon, “Some books should be tasted, some devoured, but only a few should be chewed and digested thoroughly.

That’s exactly how spiritual books should be treated. Once you start savoring the goodness in reading, these books will help you discover things about yourself and the world that may have silently puzzled you for years.

We often feel burned by the circumstances of life and suffer from anxiety, sorrow, inferiority complex, depression etc.

When we pick up a spiritual (or a self-help) book, that’s the first step towards changing our thoughts.

I remember the time when I was going through a major low in my personal life, and that’s when I stumbled upon Mitch Albom’s ‘Tuesdays with Morrie‘. As I read through, the thought clouds in the mind started clearing.

I’ve read similar books before as well, but it was this particular time when the words drew me closer and for the first time, I felt like I’m being guided by the pages of the book.

Best spiritual books:

Tuesdays with Morrie by Mitch Albom

tuesdays with Morrie

You must have figured out that my all time favorite spiritual book is ‘Tuesdays with Morrie’, which is a memoir based on a series of interviews with Morrie Schwartz, Mitch Albom’s former mentor and professor who was dying of the rare Lou Gehrig’s disease.

The book is a compilation of all the lessons that Morrie passed on to Albom and even after his death, Morrie has been continuing to touch people with his ideas of love.

By the end of it, you’ll realize that accepting our own death can help us to understand what really matters in life and thus, we can make an attempt to live more meaningfully.

The Book of Joy by His Holiness The Dalai Lama XIV

The book of joy

This book on joy emerged out of the dialogues between two of the most renowned spiritual gurus in the world – Archbishop Desmond Tutu & His Holiness The Dalai Lama.

Both of them have struggled with suffering and pain: the Dalai Lama has been in exile from his home in Tibet for more than 50 years and the Archbishop felt first-hand the sting of immense racial hatred during the times of apartheid in South Africa.

Yet both of them are known for their smiles, their love and laughter, and their deep sense of joy. This book will answer your questions related to fear, stress, anger, illness, grief, and death, while helping you to nurture a sense of peace, resilience, and equilibrium.

The Power of Now by Eckhart Tolle

Power of now

I learned about the truth of ‘impermanence during my Vipassana course, and later, when I read this book, my concept of ‘NOW’ got clearer.

For most of our lives, we keep swaying between the past & the future and often forget to live in the moment – the present.

In this book that’s written majorly in a Question-Answer format, the author explores presence, thinking, and spirituality to help you understand what ‘now’ means, how our thoughts can drive away a lot of human pain, and how to live a life that reduces suffering.

Love for Imperfect Things by Haemin Sunim

love for imperfect things

We, as human beings, are all striving for perfection. We want a perfect job, a perfect home, a perfect partner, a perfect life, so on and so forth – but what we don’t realize is that ‘perfection’ is a relative concept and it’s nearly impossible to reach a state where our sense of perfect can be satisfied.

In this book, the author talks about falling in love with the little ‘imperfect’ things, and that would start with ourselves. When we learn how to embrace ourselves fully and accept ourselves the way we are, we can be at peace with the world around us.

Once we become spiritually mature, our focus shifts from perfection as we naturally develop more empathy and try to see things from others’ perspectives.

Your Soul’s Plan by Robert Schwartz

your souls plan

Rob Schwartz is not just an excellent author and spiritual speaker, but he’s also a practitioner in past-life soul regression and between lives soul regression.

In this book, he explores the premises that we are all eternal souls who plan our lives, including our greatest challenges, before we’re born for purposes of spiritual growth.

When there’s a problem, we always tend to think – ‘Why is this happening just to me?’ – but we forget to remind ourselves that everything that’s happening to us, has reason for it.

If you’re also doubting the circumstances and blaming life for putting you through challenges, this book on spirituality will shift your focus and help you to understand why you have been put through certain hardships, the death of a loved one, disabilities, or health issues.

If you still haven’t read these books, then now is the time to pick them up and get started.

It’s never too late to inculcate the habit of reading, and you never know, something amidst these pages might ease your life a bit.
