Self Improvement Tips That Will Change Your Life

Published

on

You must have been thinking that ‘self-improvement’ is an automatic process and we’re in general growing as each day passes by!

But try to give this a thought – wouldn’t it be better if you could focus a little more on yourself to change your life and seek happiness through your own radiance?

Well, this article is all about how you can focus on self-improvement and bloom beautifully!

Self-improvement is a never-ending journey. To put it in the words of Toby Robbins, “No matter what you’re pursuing, self-improvement is a critical part of your progress and happiness.”

It’s a fact of life that until you try to focus on your own self and evolve with time, you can’t really flourish to the fullest neither will you be able to impact others’ lives.

Over the years, as I tried to dig deeper, trying to find my passion in life and make something meaningful out of it, I realized how important it is to motivate myself at each step (even when I saw the darkness of the tunnel) and focused on self-improvement, which ultimately helped me to see the light.

In order to make your tomorrow better than how it is today, all you need to do is nudge yourself to be a more mindful person and boost yourself to do something great.

It’s no rocket – science for sure, and here are 10 simple self-improvement tips that you can incorporate in your daily routine, to change your life!

1. Fall in love with yourself.

The first self-improvement tip is learning to love yourself. I know that this is easier said than done, and it took me quite some time to accept myself the way I am.

The same goes for you as well – you have to learn to accept who you are and that you are beautiful just the way you are. You’re not supposed to look like Brad Pitt or sing like Adele, neither can you be a great writer as Shakespeare was!

You are supposed to simply be you and that’s what makes you unique. Look in the mirror, and smile at yourself! You deserve it.

Tell yourself how special you are every day. It may be hard at first, but as time goes on, it will become easier. Learn to recognize what talents and qualities you have that are special and believe me, we are all special in our own way.

2. Create a routine in your life.

Most of the time we don’t value the importance of following a routine in life. However, creating a schedule that works for you will make your life feel more organized about things and it’ll also be easier to finish both daily and weekly work, per se.

When you make a routine, think about how much time you’d like to dedicate to each activity or habit – and also keep in mind the amount of time you have to make it all happen.

This will not only help you to complete your tasks but also provide you with a much-needed feeling of accomplishment.

3. Work out & eat well.

In today’s date, none can deny the importance of exercising – whether it’s about going out for a run, hitting the gym, or just practicing yoga at home.

When you exercise, your body exerts more effort and you release more endorphins into your system. This is what makes you feel better and improves your mood.

And of course, eating healthy is equally important. What we feed our bodies make an impact on our minds as well.

Drink at least 8 glasses of water in a day, to keep yourself hydrated. Add adequate amounts of protein and carbs to your meal.

Make sure to have at least one fruit every day and also, consume seasonal veggies as much as possible. Once in a while, indulge to have a cheese burst pizza as well – ‘coz you’d need that too.

4. Indulge in learning a new skill.

Learning a new skill breeds confidence in ourselves. When we learn something new, we get excited and are eager to learn more.

This increases our self-confidence and we grow and want to learn more. It’s a cycle that fuels itself and in the long run, you never know how it can benefit you!

So what is it that you have always wanted to learn but always put off? Write a list of things and then start working on learning those new skills. By learning new things, you grow as a person.

5. Try to get into the habit of reading.

No, I’m not asking you to become a bookworm! But reading stimulates the mind and helps us to work on our levels of concentration.

Try to pick up books of your favorite genre and start reading – it doesn’t matter even if they are comics! The goal isn’t about what you read or how many books you can read, but rather get into the habit of reading.

6. Get into the habit of meditating.

This is extremely important for self-improvement – to focus on your breathing and just feel the bliss of being in sync with your mind, body, and soul.

Along with learning new skills and reading, you should fill up your new-found free time by meditating for 10 minutes per day, if not more.

Some may think that meditating needs a lot of effort while others may consider that it is a waste of time, but I find that clearing my head of all of my thoughts and just being present has a huge effect on my mood and happiness.

7. Accept the mantra of ‘Impermanence’.

I was 24 years old when I finally got introduced to the beautiful mantra of ‘Impermanence’ which helped me to accept ‘change’ in ways I never did before!

A part of pushing through tough times is all about accepting change and believing in the fact that nothing in life is forever.

Things are constantly changing. We age every day, the seasons change every 3 months, people leave us at odd hours, we break and again get back on our feet – so on and so forth.

It’s part of life. While it isn’t always easy to accept change, the sooner you do, the happier you will be.

8. Accept your past.

When I told my partner about my past relationships and the mess I’ve made through the years, he gave a beautiful reply that made me think hard.

He told me, “Your past makes you the person who you are. If things wouldn’t have been this way, you would be someone else. Your past makes you whole.” His words got etched in my heart.

Look back and holding onto the past will do no good to you – what is done is done! You can’t alter it. Nothing you can do now will ever change the past.

The only thing you can do is learn from the experience and move on, push forward. Pick up the best lessons (and memories) and keep growing.

9. Find some time for self-reflection.

This is important. At the end of the day, reflect on what happened. Was it a good day? Even if bad things happened, find ways to spin them into something positive.

In other words, don’t let the negative thoughts take root in your mind. Be thankful for all that happened to you today and vow to be an even better person tomorrow.

When you do this, you remember things that happened, that at the moment seemed insignificant. But these events had an impact on your overall day.

By reflecting on them, you keep them in the front of your mind and can use them to improve yourself.

10. Be grateful for whatever you have.

One of the most important self-improvement tips is that you need to be thankful for all that you have. Why are so many people living in debt?

Because they are chasing happiness. They think that happiness comes from things. They don’t realize that happiness comes from within. It’s the same with the quote “success leads to happiness”. It doesn’t.

As I keep saying always, it’s more important to be happy than being successful. Happiness leads to success, automatically.

Try to take a few minutes at the end of each day and think back on what happened and acknowledge the positive things in your life and be thankful for them. The more you do this, the easier they will be to identify.

Take small steps each day to improve yourself. You’ll slowly start feeling the difference – and eventually, be happier than ever!
