How To Feel Optimistic & Improve Your Mood
Here are a few ways how to feel optimistic & embrace the optimistic lights from within. Optimism doesn’t just make us happier, also makes us more confident.
“We don’t see things as they are, we see them as we are.” – Anais Nin.
Do you know that changing the way you look at things can actually change your life? – Well, yeah!
I know that there are times when it gets hard to be happy when you think about what’s going on in the world.
It’s harder still when the people around you constantly complain about all those things that are happening.
But if you can stay unaffected in such surroundings and try to look at the brighter side, you’ll feel lighter and happier, for sure.
To be honest, optimism doesn’t just make us feel happier. It also makes us more confident, allowing us to believe in ourselves and our ability to bring about a solution, rather than complaining about the problems.
Best ways how to feel optimistic:
1. Change Your Process Of Thinking
We all have a lot of choices in life. We can either spend the day sitting at home and sulking about life or go out and meet friends for a cup of coffee.
We can either hold on to age-old grudges or just let them go – it all depends on us.
Similarly, it’s entirely our choice if we wish to be positive in life and dream of better things or just go on living like we are.
Being an optimistic person in a negative world begins with the decision to be positive and choosing to live that life every single day.
2. Recognize Your Negative Thoughts
Life is a mix of all, and it’s important to acknowledge that bad things might happen.
There’s no point in ignoring reality, rather, the more aware we are of our negative thoughts, the better we can focus on how to deal with them.
Most of the time, we try to think in black and white perspective – as in, either everything is good or bad – but the grey also exists, and it’s necessary to observe and work on that as well.
Don’t let your negative thoughts destroy your mood, instead try to see how you can take charge differently, to be happier and in a calmer state of mind.
3. Cultivate Positivity Around You
We are social beings, and focusing just on your own happiness will surely be a selfish take on life.
While it’s not your job to make everyone happy, it doesn’t hurt to perk up someone’s day.
Once a day, share positive feedback with someone and see them smile. Making other people feel positive has lasting effects on your own life.
Keep a gratitude journal and at the day’s end, write about one positive thing that happened to you.
Make it a practice to cultivate positivity around you and you’ll see how beautifully it’ll affect your well-being.
4. Practice Gratitude On A Regular Basis
Drawing lines from the previous point, I’ll have to tell you that thinking about all the things you have to be grateful for – from the sunshine to clean water – can give you an instant boost of optimism.
Other than keeping a gratitude journal, you can also write a letter to someone who made a positive impact on your life – whether it’s a teacher, your best friend or a stranger you met on the road, or even your mom – telling them how they made you feel alive at some point in life.
5. Accept Criticisms In A Healthy Way
It’s obvious that you’d not always get appreciated for the things you do. Criticisms are pretty much unavoidable – and it’s on you, how you wish to deal with it. You can either sulk about it, or take it in a healthier manner.
See if you really have a fault or not – and in case you do, try to work on it for your betterment. If not, try and let it go.
Don’t overthink about anything that hurts you. The best way to think optimistically in this situation is to understand that you can’t control what other’s have to say.
6. Think Of A Better Future
Today might not be your best day, but there’s always a better tomorrow!
Whenever I feel low, I try to think of the days when I’ll visit the mountains and wake up to see the snowclad peaks – it instantly changes my mood.
When you’re having a tough day, think of something that you’d want to do, something that would make your future look brighter and help you to deal with the ordeals of the present. ‘Hope’ is something that keeps us alive.
7. Choose Your Company Wisely
Many a time, we surround ourselves with people who have a pessimistic way of looking at life.
Unknowingly, they end up affecting our thoughts, making us feel vulnerable and underconfident, leaving us questioning ourselves!
Hence, it’s extremely important to choose our friends wisely, and be with those who make us grow in ways unimaginable.
8. Make Your Mental Health & Well-Being A Priority
The last few months have changed our lives drastically, leading to a mental pandemic as well.
The isolation, fear, uncertainty, and economic turmoil that people are facing around the world is a breeding ground for psychological distress.
Given the current state of our world, there has never been a more important time for us to take care of our mental health.
We know that the mind and body are connected. If you ignore one, the other one suffers equally as much.
Research has found that taking care of ourselves physically and mentally can influence our happiness, making a positive impact on our brains.
Looking after your mind and body means creating a daily self-care ritual, consisting of eating healthy foods, exercising, meditating, doing yoga, staying connected with friends, journaling, reading, and practicing affirmations, etc.
Final Thoughts
Even in the most challenging of times, it is always possible to find something to be grateful for and look at life optimistically.
By choosing to focus on what is good in your life and what makes you happy, you will grow stronger in the face of adversity.
